Treasurers Report Richard Fiore read the treasurers report and
copies are available for anyone to review. Approval of minutes from last meeting Copies of the minutes were passed out and John
Van Camp read the minutes. A motion to accept the minutes as read was
made, the motion was seconded by Range Officer Report:
Purchasing: We are
investigating our purchasing procedures including seeking a more
cost-effective supplier and possible alternative methods of ordering
components and ammunition. The details will be finalized later.
Suggestions are welcome.
Skeet Field: We are
planning to build chutes for the houses to protect shooters from broken
clays and work on diverting standing water.
Shotgun Venues: Please
remember that Walter Shealy and David Morgan are the only people
authorized to adjust the Skeet or 5-stand machines. Thanks to all who
have helped keep houses stocked with clays, machines filled, and empty
boxes broken down and taken to the dumpster.
Pistol / Rifle: Please
remember that double-taps are permitted but rapid-fire is not. As the
pistol berm evolves through usage and weather, we are discovering some
rocks, mostly small, that have caused bullets to ricochet onto other
parts of the property. If this occurs please cease-fire and either
throw the rock into the woods beyond where Larry mows or move your
target, or your shooting position, to avoid the ricochet and notify
Walter Shealy. In the last month evidence of 410 gauge shotgun shells
being fired on the pistol range has been found.Pl ease remember that
the place to shoot shotgun shells out with a pistol or rifle is to the
left of the 100 yard target area. Cardboard is available in the brown
shed. We will be applying the top coat to the gravel on the pistol
range soon. It has been requested that we use a finer product. Your
input as to the product is appreciated. Replacement of the worn-out and
broken chairs is being investigated. Your input is welcomed. Thanks to
all who clean-up their trash after shooting.
Trap Field: We are
planning on working on the back wall of the house and dealing with
drainage.
5-stand: 3 of the machines
will be mounted on the carts as soon as covers are secured. This will
not only give us more options, but will also make loading the machines
easier and safer.
Safety: Please be diligent
about monitoring guest shooters muzzle direction on all ranges
especially when they are loading or clearing jams. In particular; skeet
#7 and 8 for right handed pumps and semi-autos, clearing of jams on the
pistol range, and chambers remaining open until the rifle is actually
pointing at the berm on the rifle range. Thanks to the attention paid
to safe muzzle direction, the gun malfunction that caused an accidental
discharge a few weeks ago is just a gun repair instead of a
catastrophe.
2012 Shoot Schedule: March
3 (Skeet / Trap), March 17 (Trap / 5-stand), March 31 (5-stand, DB
Trap)
Questions / Issues: Are
there questions or other issues?
Finally: As always, thanks
to everyone for everything that you do in regards to keeping the ranges
safe, clean, and orderly. Open Issues: a)
Gary Hewitt informed us that due to late membership renewals the
CY2012 budget would no be ready until the March meeting. New Issues
a)
New
member applications- Gary Cottrell, Thomas Hamilton, and Ronald
Isbill all applied for membership to LRGC. Their paperwork was all in
order, Mike Redmond made a motion to accept the new members and Larry
Griffin seconded the motion. A vote to accept as new members was
approved unanimously. We welcome all to the LRGC.
b)
Review of new members who have reached the end
of the probation period – no one to review.
c)
Gary Hewitt announced that he had set up an
account with Parks and Sons to purchase clays and supplies for the
component room. Walter Shealy will be ordering clays soon.
d)
New
Business from the floor-
1) Mike Green made a motion
to cover the pistol range with M10 gravel. The motion was seconded by
Dave Reynolds and was approved unanimously by the membership.
2) Dave Reynolds made a motion to have the West Ga. Home Builders
Assoc. shoots this year on May 19th an Oct. 13th. Freddy Edmondson
seconded the motion and the membership voted unanimously to accept.
3) Gary Hewitt recommended the club consider having a family day this
year. The club would provide hamburgers and hot dogs, chips, and drinks
for everyone attending. The shooting venues would be open to all
provided guest shooters were closely supervised by a club member. Under
age shooters would require a release signed by their parent or legal
guardian before being permitted to shoot, so please plan accordingly to
avoid disappointments. There would be no guest fee to shoot rifle or
pistol, and member prices would apply for t he shotgun venues.
Gary is also looking into having
a certified instructor to school any of the guests in proper firearm
safety and use.
A motion was made by Dave
Reynolds to have a family day, the motion was seconded and the club
voted unanimously to approve the motion.
Adjournment Gary Hewitt adjourned the meeting at 7:45 PM. Next Meeting: March 14, 2012 at 7:00 P.M. Supper around 6:15 p.m.,
menu to be determined. Hope to see you then. Secretaries blog: Gary Lane brought three homemade coconut cream
pies for desert. My favorite pie is a coconut cream and Gary didn't let
me down. Wow what a good pie.
Thanks Gary Lane and you can bring them again anytime. Another member brought a chocolate cake. I
apologize for not seeing who brought the cake but it was also
delicious. Thank you for the cake too. Larry Griffin and I made Country Style Barbeque
Ribs and I must say we did an outstanding job. The menu also included
biscuits, gravy, and cole slaw.
Supper was such a hit that the food was completely consumed and
a few didn't get any of the ribs. If you didn't get any of the ribs,
sorry you missed out. Membership attendance at the meeting has been
improving and Larry and I hope you enjoy the food we prepare. We'll do
our best to make sure there is enough for everyone John Van Camp 2012 LRGC Secretary. |
