Poise for the Runway of Your Life
June 18, 2008
As you may know, there are many descriptions for “Runway”. Today we will focus on the usage of “a stage or a platform that we act on”. We
will talk about the runway on which we act out our lives. How many of you have seen models poised on the runway? How was their posture while performing their actions?
Were the models standing straight, upright in appearance? Did you see their shoulders in place, like a soldier in a proud uniform? At age 51, I became an Elite
Lifestyle Model in Atlanta, which was my childhood dream. The only way I was about to get this contract was—in faith—to relocate and reposition myself on a runway in
Georgia. This started my new transition, as I had to leave behind my comfort zone in Nashville. Was I up for the challenge, I asked myself? I also wondered how poised I was to
make this change all by myself (although I knew the Holy Spirit was with me). The noun “Poise” means: “to bring into or hold in balance, maintain in equilibrium.” One of
the meanings of “Balance” is “the power or authority to decide and determine”. The word “Poise” is also used to refer to: “repose and dignity in manner of self-possession.”
“Repose” is defined as: “confidence or hope within”. Everything, my dear ones, starts within your soul and then radiates from the inside to the outside. Let’s say it’s
time to make a move in your career, and you are off balance because of fear, doubt or worry. What if you held in your mind’s eye what you wanted to create for your career and
held that space in “confidence or a hope within”? What would your spirit feel like then? Do you have the authority to make an important decision that will determine your
position on the runway of your life? Here’s another way to look at runways: An airplane lands or taxis into one runway—where it goes to clean up, fuel up and reload with
passengers—only to take off again from another runway for another destination. The airplane is able to take off again only after preparation. In all situations of life,
you must examine your motives. What are the inner questions that you must pose to make the right decisions for good in your life? Ask yourself, how have you expressed poise
within yourself while acting out on your runway of life? Is your head positioned up or down? Is it focused in attention? When going through a “valley” of what you have
perceived as a mishap in your life—a failure, a transition, a family crisis, or what appeared to be a loss—how was your posture? Can you think about the lessons learned while
living out your “runway” experiences? Did you have a frown or a smile while on your runway? Did you know that you are the writer, creator, casting director, actor, and
producer of your life to be played out on the runway?! For me, the Holy Spirit is the Guiding Force of my life—the main Director! My life is a play guided by God.
It’s been one year now since my destined journey from Nashville, Tennessee to a new runway: the little country town of Carrollton, Georgia. Over this past year, many have
asked me how I could have left my children (who are all adults) to follow my dreams. A few have questioned my chances for survival in Carrollton, i.e., did I make the right
choice? Others have called me and told me they were praying for my destined success in Georgia. Regardless of what other people said, once I said YES to the Holy Spirit, the
guide of my life, I made preparation for the journey by selling every big thing I had in my apartment. I did this in order to pursue my childhood dream. It has been a Faith
experience I will never forget. Do you really know what the dictionary says about Faith? “Faith” is defined as: “confidence in a statement or thing as trustworthy”.
Also, “belief in God or in scriptures or other religious writings” (Standard Encyclopedic Dictionary). It has been said that “Faith without action is dead”. So I made a choice
to integrate the two—Faith and action—and then to step into my destiny. Once I was coming down the runway of my life to meet with Elite in Atlanta, I remembered what an
old sage had told me when I was nineteen. She said that I would not be happy until I was living in Atlanta and working in performing arts! I didn’t understand this at the
time, because back when I was young, modeling wasn’t the performing art it is now. So after consulting the Holy Spirit about my decision to move and sell everything,
it was time to figure out where I was going to live. My cousin in California owned a house in Carrollton GA, where his son had lived for college. I called the cousin and his
wife to see if I could rent a room. At the time, they still had students living there—who were not paying their rent. What my family didn’t know was that the students had torn
everything up in the brand new house! When I arrived, I felt that it was time for me to go to work on saving my cousin’s home, restoring it back to good condition.
Most women would have driven up to this mess and then turned around and gone back to safety. Not me! I reclaimed my cousins’ house for them. Within two weeks—while my family
was still typing up an eviction notice—the students were gone. The students broke into the home several times while I was living there. Finally we installed Brinks security,
and I had a safe place to live! After all the work was done to restore the home back to its order, it was my time to create my career path and personal journey in
life. This seasonal “stage” or “runway” was very different for me, as it was very quiet living in the country. I was able to contemplate, pray, read, write, and create,
without distraction of any kind. I called this a “soul renewal”. There is a time and season for all things to come to pass in our lives. We must discern which season we are
acting out. Biblical scriptures clearly instruct, “Be still and know that I Am God.” I ask you to stop here and ponder, meditate or contemplate on your new poise for the
runway of your life. Examine, in silence and quiet contemplation, what is needed for you to go to the next stage or runway. It is in the silence that the work of manifesting
starts, according to the “Law of Attraction”. Charles Fillmore, founder of the Unity Movement, perceived that we all have spiritual support through calling up the
Twelve Powers, or twelve inner disciples inside each person. Many New Thought churches teach these principles. Here are the 12 Powers: Faith, Love, Strength, Wisdom, Power,
Imagination, Understanding, Will, Order, Zeal, Elimination and Life. For more on the 12 Powers: http://www.sheaministries.org/powers/index.htm You can call on these
inner powers at any time. With Faith symbolized by deep blue in the center of your brain; Love radiating in pink from your heart center; and Wisdom in yellow rays from the
intuitive core of your solar plexus, you have all you need to develop your inner poise. Using your mind and heart to think and feel, use your Imagination, your Faith, your
Will and Understanding to achieve your desired manifestations. And from James 1:5-6 (NKJV) “If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and
without reproach (no blaming), and it will be given to him . . . . But let him ask in faith with no doubting (questioning), for he who doubts is like a wave of the sea, driven
and tossed by the wind.” How poised are you? Do you seek directions from a higher source than yourself? Go within your soul and with your mind’s eyes, use your inner
powers, calling especially on Faith. Seek and you shall find your answers within yourself!
